If eye spy gets boring whilst you travel in your planes, trains, and automobiles this Spring Break, here are the things introduced this Friday that you may be able to play with your child in some creative way.
We explored beginning sounds, ending sounds, addition to 10, and measurement (comparison).
Enjoy the BREAK!

Student-Led Conference
Student-led conference afternoon is next Tuesday, March 11. This is what you can expect...
Your child's journal will be available for you to look at. You will see that they have been practicing their printing and spelling (AKA invented spelling) in the journals. I have only asked them for a word or two to support their picture. Some have challenged themselves to write more than one word, but there probably aren't any spaces between the words. AFTER Spring Break, our focus will be on printing sentences, with spacing.
Your child will have a short booklet that they have created for you to look at. It is a summative journal of sorts. They will be asked to do a detailed drawing to represent a given idea, copy a sentence frame, and fill in a blank to complete the given sentence. For example...My favourite part of Kindergarten is ______________. This is a step towards having them generate sentences on their own. You can look through the book with your child and ask about their drawings, ask them to read their sentence, and hopefully have some meaningful conversations about their Kindergarten experience so far. This booklet can come home with you on Tuesday.
There will also be a slideshow of pictures from days and events past playing on the SmartBoard as well as activities around literacy and numeracy set up. It is a great opportunity for you to see how confident your child is with the activities in the classroom, as well as in general with numeracy and literacy skills. You may or may not have time for this, but it is there if you do.
Lastly, you will have a bundle of work from Term 2 that you can look through and take home.
If you wish to speak with me in detail about your child, please request a private conference via email as this will not be the appropriate venue.
If I have any concerns about your child, I will be in touch.

Performance today
The Dufflebag Performance Group performed for the school today and didn't disappoint. Always hysterical and highly entertaining. The group retold the story of Cinderella in French and English. They drew children, and even me, from the audience to help act out the story. Great, great time!

Be Bear Aware
Christine Miller from the North Shore Black Bear Society came by to visit with us again today. We found out that bear's are about to come out of hibernation and that means new cubs for those mom's who hunkered down in their dens pregnant. Christine wants that Mama bear to teach her cubs to eat natural foods so please ask your child how you can be Bear Aware at home and help keep these beautiful animals out of our neighbourhoods.
And remember, Bears are not only omnivorous...they also like a good poopy diaper!

100s Day
100s Day was so much fun...who knew walking into a room through a hole, not a door, would be so thrilling?! We paired up with Ms. Rogers class to work out way through some fun 100s centres like, a 100 piece puzzle, threading 100 fruit loops, grouping activities, crowns, and estimating 100. We also did the 100 day olympics in the gym which generated a lot of red, sweaty faces! I can't believe I didn't take more pics but here is what I have.
