Information supporting IB Unit of Inquiry #2

The Kindergarten students are working on an IB Unit of Inquiry that will last approximately 4 weeks.  During this time students will be involved in inquiry-based, transdisciplinary learning (integrating subject areas).

Some of the subjects that will be integrated into this unit are:
Social Studies, Language Arts, Math, Drama, Social Responsibility and Art

The IB Primary Years Program Theme:  Who We Are

The Central Idea for the Unit of Inquiry: Relationships can provide a sense of connectedness.

Throughout this unit, students will participate in activities focusing on:

·                Roles and responsibilities of class members, family members, and friends
·                Healthy Relationships
·                Relationships between numbers and things

Attributes of the Learner Profile that we will be focusing on developing during this unit:
            - Communicator - Listening to others and participating in discussions, role-plays,
                                           surveys, etc.
- Open-minded - Opportunities to appreciate differences and similarities in relationships

How to assist your child throughout this Unit of Inquiry:
-   Talk about your family (e.g. jobs, history, look at family photos, origins of names)
-   Send in a photo of your child as a baby and another photo of your whole family for display in the classroom
-   Suggested questions: Who is in our family?   What are some of your family responsibilities?
How is our family connected to each other?
