Valentines Day

Valentines Day is coming up in 2 weeks time.  We will have a small celebration on Friday the 14th and children will be able to hand out their Valentines Day cards at that time.  If your child chooses to bring Valentines Day cards for his/her classmates, please ensure that he/she brings one for everyone.  Feelings get hurt if children only bring enough for their closest friends.  There are 20 children in total and a class list on this blog to help with names.

If you wish to send a treat, that would be fine; however, I will be bringing something for them for the end of the day snack so anything additional should be something they can take home with them easily (ie. not a cupcake).

Handout procedure - each child will have made an envelope type mailbox (yes, that's what I am calling it) for receipt of their Valentines Day cards.  This...mailbox, will have their name on it and children will move about the classroom stuffing their Valentines cards into the appropriate mailbox.
Most of the time, children like to write each friend's name on each card and this is AMAZING (some times they are left blank, and sometimes parents do the writing).  After all that writing, they then have to read the name on the card, and match it to the name on the mailbox.  It's a LOT of work.  But, they LOVE to do it.  I would encourage parents to allow their children to take ownership over addressing their cards - if your child struggles with this, or finds it frustrating, try breaking up the job over the next two weeks.  Once here, they will have plenty of support matching up their card with a mailbox if they need it (but they are quite obsessed with reading and spelling eachother's names so it should go smoothly).

Thanks!
